They may not be as evident as they obviously would be in the "real world", but they still exist. Because, even in a "virtual world" you can't get around the fact of how people handle those issues. the author of this article has an objective approach, which i like. They are open to discussion, open minded about race. As most who would resort to this "virtual world" (as i would think) as to escape reality and not have to deal with real issues as racism. To me, if you were to participate in this "second life" it would only seem normal to try to create an avatar that is different from your true identity, because you are able to get a second view on life so why would you want to be the same as you are in real life?! isn't that the point? to see life in different eyes because in this life, YOU have the ability to control those things in reality that are not necessarily in our control, however they are things that affect us greatly... such as looks. white skin, black skin, blue eyes, brown eyes, fat, skinny... etc. No matter what, people will always judge you by their first impression, they way you look, and people will always judge you by what color you are. So in the virtual world.... what you see... is not necessarily what you get, and that i guess is the point of it all... to go deeper and realize that first impressions can be deceiving!
