Hi folks — meet at the actual park this evening, not the classroom! I’ll be running a bit late, so go ahead and go so you can get good seats!
6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Millenium Park / Jay Pritzger Pavilion
Remembering Fela: Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, with special guest DJ Rich Medina (Music Without Borders)
Nigeria’s Seun Kuti is a great exponent of Afro Beat, the explosive political music invented by his father, Fela Kuti, in the 1970s. Seun plays with Egypt 80, his father’s original band. The 22-piece band boasts punching brass and rocking bass sections with a big band jazz/Afro funk sound complimented

In reading White like me, it was interesting to see how real “issues” such as racism still exist weather you like it or not and no matter how hard we try to find ways to eliminate them, and new ways to avoid them, they always seem to creep in… because they are real. They may not be as evident as they obviously would be in the “real world”, but they still exist. Because, even in a “virtual world” you can’t get around the fact of how people handle those issues. the author of this article has an objective approach, which i like. They are open to discussion, open minded about race. As most who would resort to this “virtual world” (as i would think) as to escape reality and not have to deal with real issues as racism. To me, if you were to participate in this “second life” it would only seem normal to try to create an avatar that is different from your true identity, because you are able to get a second view on life so why would you want to be the same as you are in real life?! isn’t that the point? to see life in different eyes because in this life, YOU have the ability to control those things in reality that are not necessarily in our control, however they are things that affect us greatly… such as looks. white skin, black skin, blue eyes, brown eyes, fat, skinny… etc. No matter what, people will always judge you by their first impression, they way you look, and people will always judge you by what color you are. So in the virtual world…. what you see… is not necessarily what you get, and that i guess is the point of it all… to go deeper and realize that first impressions can be deceiving!
